Letter: To "Ted" (Theodore Corner) from "George" (George Washington Corner). Baltimore. George tells Ted that he received his letter, but won't be able to send supplies for a while, as the military has prohibited any supplies being sent from the city. He still has not heard from Captain Pettibone and has been asking about him. Discussion of the weather which has been bad, and a new machine Ted has bought to help in his garden. It is unknown where Lee's army currently is, but the surrender of Vicksburg is a blow to the South. Gold prices have declined again, which has affected everything else. Mezick Corner hopes to visit Ted as soon as the restrictions are gone, as you cannot leave the city without a pass. The details of the battles have been terrible, and there is not an end in sight. George will send supplies when Pettibone returns and the barrier is lifted. Ma (Sarah Johnson Corner) had been ill, but is better, and the rest of the family is well.
