Letter: To "Ted (Theodore Corner) from "George" (George Washington Corner). [Baltimore]. George is glad to hear that Rach (Rachel Shaffer) is feeling better, Mr. Shaffer (Frederick Shaffer) was about to send down Mrs. Shaffer until they received the letter by Tom. Clark came to visit and George is sending him to Ted with the refridgerator and other supplies, except the pump which needs to be fixed by Mr. Dorry. Jim Lemmon wants to put out his daughter and asked if Ted would want her as a nurse or house servant. She is about 15 or 16 years old. Discussion of news from Vicksburg, that it looks "rather squally for the Confeds," but the capture has not been confirmed. Gold prices have dropped to 46. Theodore Johnson, 1st mate of the Continental, died as he fell into the sea and was eaten by a shark. It is said it must have been sad for Meck (probably Mezick Corner). Ma (Sarah Johnson Corner) is feeling much better in the warm weather. The preachers (assumed Mr. Gibson and Mr. Kendric Riley) and their families were invited over for dinner, and there was a grand christening. Those christened by Mr. Gere were one of Mr. Gibson's children, two of Mary Dorry's and George's baby (likely George Corner). The Brickhead went to sea Tuesday morning. |
