Description
Letter from Dr. William Thornton, Washington DC, to John Gibson, Annapolis. Letter of 12 Nov 1815 asks John Gibson to send Dr. Thornton a young bull and a heifer calf "to preserve the breed;" wants the best milk breed, prefers Red, Brendle to Black. Letter of 12 Dec 1815 mentions need of good milk breed, small head and large behind, same colors as previous letter. Leter of 22 Dec 1815 is a thank you letter to John Gibson from Dr. William Thornton for two calves. Miss Gibson will be traveling to Washington to visit Dr. Thornton's family; mentions "The President and his Lady," [Pres. Madison?] have a grand levee on New Year's Day annually and they will possibly attend.
