Description
Letter: B.O. Tayloe to Samuel Ridout. Discusses an inheritance left to B.O. Tayloe's mother (Anne Ogle Tayloe) by her grandmother (Ann Tasker Ogle) of 1000 lbs sterling to her on 30 Dec 1809 by (Anne Ogle Tayloe's mother, Henrietta Margaret Hill Ogle), also mentions a similar bond directed to B. O. Taylor's "Uncle Ogle" was to be used to the benefit of Mrs. Bevans and her children.

Description
Letter from Henry Thomas to John Gibson, Esquire, Magothy near Annapolis. Thomas sold his farm to Henry Allen and Thomas' mother gave a deed to Mr. Allen thinking she rightfully owned the land. Investigation showed that Gibson had purchased the land for Mrs. Thomas. Henry asks Gibson to give Allen a deed for the land.

Description
Letter from Dr. William Thornton, Washington DC, to John Gibson, Annapolis. Letter of 12 Nov 1815 asks John Gibson to send Dr. Thornton a young bull and a heifer calf "to preserve the breed;" wants the best milk breed, prefers Red, Brendle to Black. Letter of 12 Dec 1815 mentions need of good milk breed, small head and large behind, same colors as previous letter. Leter of 22 Dec 1815 is a thank you letter to John Gibson from Dr. William Thornton for two calves. Miss Gibson will be traveling to Washington to visit Dr. Thornton's family; mentions "The President and his Lady," [Pres. Madison?] have a grand levee on New Year's Day annually and they will possibly attend.

Sept 1819 letter mentions dry weather and grain; Feb. 1819 letter mentions Edwin Pratt; Mr. Bordley and the sale of "the island;" mention of Mr. Sim and terms of sale; "hard times." Aug 1817 letter mentions getting the Governor to issue a nolle prosequi.

Description
Letter from Maria E. Tilghman to her father John Gibson, Magothy. Kitty Elbert and her four children and Anne Seth are staying with the Tilghmans. Kitty's husband, William Elbert, has suffered some misfortune and is in Chester, PA. Kitty is thinking "of going in Mr. Lloyd's vessel to see the Governor" and asks that Gibson meet her there. Their property at the Nine Bridges has been taken by creditors. Maria indicates that perhaps the Elbert's extravagance is to blame for their circumstances. Mention of "Sam Ringgold and several gentlemen dining at Mr. Lloyd's", Mr. Tighman also attending.

Letters from Nannie M. Tilton to Dr. John Ridout, Annapolis. Mention of summer resort in Mount Holly Springs, United States Hotel, Cumberland County, PA. Her "little darling" is ill, not recovering even after 20 drops paregoric. Ridout has sent two prescriptions, bundles of white powder, and Tilton asks for directions as to their use. Also in file: a blank Examination Form, Union Mutual Life Insurance Company, 27 Court Street, Boston. Gives age and life expectany information.

Letters from S. Toy to sister, Elizabeth Owings, staying at Ridout House, Annapolis. 1837 letter from Louisville, KY, mentions sending gift of shawl and collar. 1842 mentions death of Sophia. 1843 letter says "cousin Sammy," a doctor, not doing well in Illinois, there is no work for him in Lousiville since there are over 100 doctors there and bankruptcies are common.

Description
Letter from Robert Tuite, Queenstown, QA Co, to John Gibson, Magothy, mentioning John's ill health and his (JG's) efforts to prevent passage of a bill threatening Gibson property. Mentions two slave women Gibson is arranging to buy from Tuite at $200 each, that they are to be freed at age 45. Mention of an earlier agreement for a slave woman with 5 children for $600 who also is to be freed at 45. Tuite encloses a blank form, handwritten, for manumission.
