The Mount Airy Messenger began publication March 3, 1916 [v. 1, no. 1] and ceased in 1922. It was published monthly. The newspaper merged with the Sykesville Herald (Sykesville: 1913) to form the Herald-Messenger (Sykesville: 1922).

Microfilming of these newspapers was made possible through funds provided by the Maryland State Archives and the United States Newspaper Program of the Library of Congress and the Office of Preservation, National Endowment for the Humanities.
