The Pilot began publication June 6, 1913 [v. 14, no. 32] and ceased June 5, 1969 [v. 70, no. 28]. It was published weekly. The newspaper continues the Union Bridge Pilot (Union Bridge: 1899) and was absorbed by the Carroll County Times (Westminster: 1956).
John R. Galt, editor of the Union Bridge Pilot remained as editor of the Pilot until the issue of January 29, 1932 when his name no longer appears. Oliver J. Stonesifer, who had been an officer of the Pilot Publishing Company since 1909, became editor and remained until his death on October 6, 1950. M. H. Rakestraw took over as editor and published the Pilot until it was sold to the Carroll County Times, June 5, 1969. The Pilot was issued as a supplement to the Times for several years thereafter.
