The Independent began publication May 13, 1926 [v. 66, no. 44] and ceased June 9, 1927 [v. 68, no. 48]. It was published weekly. The newspaper continues the American Union (Denton: 1860) and was continued by the Caroline Independent (Denton: 1927).
The Independent succeeded the American Union under the management of Rue Publishing Company. It was renamed the Caroline Independent when it was purchased by the Eastern Shore Newspaper Corporation in 1927.
