Title history based on August 6, 1851 [v. 13, no. 5]. It was also published as the Herald of Freedom & Torch Light January 21, 1863-February 11, 1863, Herald of Freedom, and Herald and Torch. The newspaper was formed by the union of the Hagerstown Herald of Freedom (Hagerstown: 1848) and the Torch Light (Hagerstown: 1850) and was continued by the Herald and Torch Light (Hagerstown: 1864).
