Collection History
(Hagerstown, Washington County: News Pub. & Printing Co.) The Morning News began publication May 7, 1894 [v. 20, no. 214] and ceased December 1895. It was published daily, except Sunday. From July 16-November 28, 1894, the title appeared as The Evening News. Other editions include the Weekly News (Hagerstown: 1873). The newspaper continues the Daily News (Hagerstown: 1887) and merged with the Daily Herald and Torch Light to form the Morning Herald (Hagerstown: 1895). This project was sponsored by the Maryland State Archives and the Maryland Historical Society with funds provided by the Board of Public Works, State of Maryland, and the National Endowment for the Humanities, grant #RC 25304-77-21.
