Description
“A Cattle Raid” St Petersburg VA 1864. Author discusses skirmish or battle near Petersburg initiated by a cattle raid on the Union Army. Involved are General Grant and General Lee, the Tenth Georgia Regiment, and Company A stationed at Sycamore Church near plantation of Edmund Ruffin. One sergeant named Henry Harris, discovered large number of cattle near where Grant was camped and reported that to General Wade Hampton and General Lee. Also mentioned are General Rosser, Deerings’ Brigade, Greggs Division of Federal Calvary, Young’s Brigade, Sixth South Carolina Calvary, and the Calvary of the District of Columbia..
