| St. Peter's (founded 1770) was the first and only Roman Catholic church in the city of Baltimore when the Diocese of Baltimore was established in 1789. The church was designated Bishop John Carroll's pro-Cathedral in 1790 and served as the episcopal seat of the bishop of Baltimore until the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was dedicated in 1821. |
