The American Sentinel began publication June 15, 1855 [new series, v. 5, no. 24] and ceased December 28, 1928 [v. 96, no. 52]. It was published weekly, 1855-April 26, 1912; semiweekly, April 30, 1912-March 14, 1913; weekly, March 21, 1913-1928. The newspaper continues the Westminster Carrolltonian (Westminster: 1848).

This project was sponsored by the Maryland State Archives and the Maryland Historical Society with funds provided by the Board of Public Works, State of Maryland, and the National Endowment for the Humanities, Grant #RC 25384-77-21.

Issues of this newspaper are from the collection of the Maryland Historical Society and were donated to the Society by Leland Jordan.
