The Caroline Independent began publication June 16, 1927 [v. 69 (i.e. 68), no. 49] and published weekly. The newspaper continues the Independent (Denton: 1926).

The Caroline Independent was established when Lorie C. Quinn, Jr., president of the Eastern Shore Newspaper Corporation, purchased the Independent from Rue Publishing Company. E.D.C. Hegman was editor until September 4, 1931 when management of the paper was assumed by L.C. Quinn and Sons. Mary E. Hobbs was named editor, November 27, 1931.
