The Planter's Advocate and Southern Maryland Advertiser began publication September 3, 1851 [v. 1, no. 1] and ceased August 31, 1853 [v. 3, no. 1]. It was published weekly. The newspaper was continued by the Planter's Advocate (Upper Marlboro: 1853).

Issues of this newspaper were from the collections of the Enoch Pratt Free Library and the Maryland Historical Society. Issues from the Pratt were deposited there by the publishers of the Enquirer-Gazette, Upper Marlboro.
