Description
Newspaper, Baltimore County Union
History
(Towsontown, Baltimore County: H. C. Longnecker)

The Baltimore County Union began publication January 7, 1865 [v. 1, no. 1] and ceased August 28, 1909 [v. 60, no 2329]. It was published weekly. It was also published as the County Union. The newspaper was formed by the union of the American (Towson: 1862) and the Baltimore County Advocate (Towson: 1855), and merged with the Towson News (Towson: 1905) to form the Baltimore County Union, the Towson News (Towson: 1909).

The Baltimore County Union was started when J. H. Longnecker, proprietor of the American merged with E. F. Church and L. M. Haverstick, proprietors of the Baltimore County Advocate. Haverstick and Longnecker's sons, H. C. Longnecker and J. B. Longnecker, became the editors of the Baltimore County Union. L. M. Haverstick remained as editor until January 6, 1866 when E. F. Church bought his interest in the paper. Church disposed of his interest on March 3, 1866 to Charles A. Conner who had been with the American. Conner left sometime in 1870. The Longnecker brothers remained as editors from 1870 to 1890.
