History
(Annapolis, Anne Arundel County: R. D. Sellman & T. J. Wilson 1854; Thomas J. Wilson 1855-1861; Richard P. Bayly 1863-1866; J. Guest King ca. 1868-1874) The Annapolis Gazette began publication September 28, 1854 [v. 1, no. 1] and ceased in 1874[?]. It was published weekly. The newspaper was continued by the Maryland Gazette (Annapolis: 1874). Archives' collection includes issue for April 2, 1872 and a negative photostat of issue for October 5, 1854 [v. 1, no. 2] (MSA SC 941). This project was made possible through funds provided by the Maryland State Archives and the United States Newspaper Program of the Library of Congress and the Office of Preservation, National Endowment for the Humanities.
