History
(Port Tobacco, Charles County: John S. Button & Co.) The Maryland Independent began publication in 1874. It was published semiweekly, beginning August 19, 1981; weekly, [September 16, 1874]-August 12, 1981. Title history based on September 16, 1874 [v. 1, no. 12]. It was published at La Plata, [1894]-April 27, 1977; at Waldorf, beginning May 4, 1977. It ended publication July, 1981. It was continued by the South Prince Georges Independent Archives' collection includes fragment of issue for May 20, 1971 (MSA SC 1074-9) microfilmed as part of the Edward Lloyd Middleton Collection. See M 1661. Archives' collection also includes issue for February 23, 1968 (MSA SC 3474).
