The American and Commercial Advertiser began publication January 2, 1854 [v. 109, no. 17,891] and ceased December 31, 1856 [v. 114, no. 18,820]. It was published daily. It was also published as the American & Commercial Advertiser. Other editions include the Baltimore Weekly American (Baltimore: 1855). The newspaper continues the American and Commercial Daily Advertiser (Baltimore: 1802-1853) and was continued by the Baltimore American and Commercial Advertiser (Baltimore: 1857-1861).

Archives' collection includes issues for August 10, 1855, [v. 92, no. 18,389], August 14, 1855 [v. 112, no. 18,392], August 17, 1855 [v. 112, no. 18, 395].
