The American began publication in 1862 and ceased in 1864[?]. It was published weekly. Title history based on August 9, 1864. The newspaper continues the Baltimore County American (Towson: 1858) and merged with the Baltimore County Advocate (Towson: 1855) to form the Baltimore County Union (Towson: 1865).
