Description

A project begun with the goal of bringing the existences of Maryland's African American's enslaved community to life by presenting prospective images of their likenesses.

In 2017 Chris Haley, Director of the Legacy of Slavery in Maryland Project met with Master Sargent Don Stahl of the Charles County Sheriff Office, a forensic artist. Out of this meeting, two forensic portraits emerged--a portrait of Lot Bell (description of Lot Bell derived from Caroline County Certificate of Freedom) and a portrait of Samuel Curtis.
