Description
Family papers, The Charles Carroll of Carrollton Family Papers: A Microfilm Edition of Documents Located at the Maryland Historical Society, Baltimore. Collection consists of the direct lineal forebears and descendants of Charles Carroll of Carrollton (1737-1832) and of their in-laws when such manuscripts pertain to direct forebears or descendants. Culled from over 60 different collections, the documents span nearly 225 years. For filming, the manuscripts have been organized into seven categories: Correspondence 1703-1908; Business and Financial Papers; Ledgers and Account Books; The Baltimore Company Papers; Land Papers; Charles Carroll of Carrollton's Estate Papers; and Miscellaneous Papers.
Materials are arranged chronologically and include personal and business correspondence, invitations, messages, and other related items. Each document is filmed with an identifying card containing the following information: author and recipient; date; descriptive information; citation to the collection from which the item is drawn and document reference number. For purposes of distinguishing among the many Charles Carrolls, the editors provide the following list: Charles Carroll the Settler (1660-1720), grandfather of Charles Carroll of Carrollton; Charles Carroll of Annapolis (1702-1782), father of Charles Carroll of Carrollton; Charles Carroll of Carrollton (1737-1832), the signer of the Declaration of Independence; Charles Carroll of Homewood (1775-1825), son of Charles Carroll of Carrollton; Charles Carroll of Doughoregan (1801-1825), son of Charles Carroll of Homewood and grandson of Charles Carroll of Carrollton; Charles Carroll of Duddington (1729-1773), first cousin of Charles Carroll of Carrollton; Dr. Charles Carroll (1691-1755), a kinsman of Charles Carroll of Carrollton, exact relationship unknown; Charles Carroll, Barrister (1732-1783), son of Dr. Charles Carroll.
