Description
Embroidery by Mary Trew (1789-1842) of Providence Plantation in Kent County, Maryland, created while attending the ‘Southern Boarding School’ at Duck Creek Crossing (now Smyrna) Delaware, in silk thread on linen of Quaker design depicting a variety of embroidered motifs, largely consisting of a floral sprigs, octagon framed designs (including a swan and a pair of love birds above an inscription: “An Emblem; Of Love” among others), all arranged with vertical symmetry, measuring 16 ½” X 19 9/16” X 1” inches (framed)
