Please join the Washington County Free Library, the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park and the Western Maryland Regional Library on May 28, 2009, at 7:00pm at the Washington County Free library, Hagerstown for a celebration of Chesapeake and Ohio Canal in the county. Karen Gray, PhD, Headquarters Library Volunteer, C&O Canal NHP will present a lecture on the economic influence of C&O Canal on the canal towns and communities in Washington County from 1824 to 1938.
Also launched that evening will be a website with photographs, documents and oral history of the life on the canal in the communities of Williamsport, Hancock, Sharpsburg, Four Locks and others. The collection will be part of the Western Maryland Regional Library’s historical website – www.whilbr.org.
