Embroidery by Mary Trew (1789-1842) of Providence Plantation in Kent County, Maryland, created while attending the ‘Southern Boarding School’ at Duck Creek Crossing (now Smyrna) Delaware, in silk thread on linen of Quaker design depicting a poem: “Southern Boarding School Delaware; When ev’ning slumbers press mire eyes; With thy [perf]ection blest; In peace a[nd … I commit; My wearied limbs to rest. My spirit him they hand secure, Tears no approaching ill; For, whether waking or asleep,; Thou Lord art with me still; What sit return can I weak flesh,; Makes to Almighty Pow[e]r; For so much goodness so much love; Such mercies every hour.; Mary Trew Daughter of; William and Mary Trew was; Born the 1st of the 2nd Mo 1789”, framed by border of strawberries, measuring 14 7/8” X 14 3/8” X 1” inches (framed)
