  • a memorandum written by Townsend on the history of the War Correspondents Memorial.
  • sketches by Townsend and J. L. Smithmeyer for the War Correspondents Memorial.
  • a poem written by Townsend, "Army Correspondent's Last Ride."
  • materials about the Battle of South Mountain, fought in 1862 near Gapland.
