Died 25 June 1979; funeral 27 June at Immanuel United Methodist Church, Chrisfield. Buried at Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
"Ex-Gov. Tawes Dies." The Evening Capital (Annapolis), 25 June 1979. Gov. Hughes ordered flags flown at half-mast. Funeral attended by numerous officials from all branches of government, including Gov. Hughes, Blair Lee III, Marvin Mandel, Senators Matthias and Sarbanes. Board of Public Works meeting canceled so that Goldstein and James could attend. Honor guard of 35 State Troopers and 35 volunteer firemen.

Bio Page
Died 7 February 1967, funeral 12 February. Service at St. John's Episcopal Church, Hagerstown; burial at Rosehill Cemetery. Honor guard of State Troopers, WWI veterns. Long funeral procession. House of Delegates and Senate adjourned in honor of his death and Senate passed resolution honoring him. Letter of sympathy from Gov. Agnew to Mrs. Lane. Funeral attended by Gov. Agnew, McKeldin, Rep. Mathias, Louie Goldstein, two Court of Appeals judges, and a number of legislators from Western Maryland.

Attended by several U.S. Senators and Congressmen, as well as Maryland legislators and judges, Gov. Tawes, Lane, Thomas D'Alesendro, Jr. Eighty-two honorary pall bearers, listed in Sun article. Service conducted by Archbishop Keough; sixty clergy members attended.
