Correspondence in this file deals primarily with Miss Handy’s participation in women’s clubs. She received letters from Julie M. Robins, Mrs. Harvey Long of Federalsburg, Mary B. Pusey, Louise E. Carrington, Maggie P. Wilson, and Mrs. G.L. Barnes. In addition the following organizations also communicated with Miss Handy: Maryland Association of Workers for the Blind, Woman Suffrage League of Maryland, and The Social Service Club of Maryland. A postcard from the Executive Board and Advisory Council of the Maryland State Federation of Women’s Clubs was sent to Miss Handy via Miss M. L. White in Ashton, Maryland. In addition, there is a letter from the Superintendent of the Board of Education of Baltimore County addressed to Louise C. Bruchner. There is a flyer offering free lectures on various forest subjects by the Maryland State Board of Forestry and a newspaper clipping from May 30, 1919 on the celebration of returning African-American soldiers to Berlin (Maryland).

This file contains a variety of correspondence. There are notes from women such as Helen O. Belknap, Mrs. L. M. Hardesty, Katherine E. Lucke, Elizabeth Purnell, Edna Staton Whaley, Aura A. Lloyd, May Purnell Wharton, Minnie H. Halloway, and Lucy J. Walter. Miss Handy had speaking engagements at the Industrial Guild meeting and with the Community League. There were several letters from the Maryland State Federation of Women’s Clubs as well as a newspaper clipping announcing the creation of a Woman’s Club for Berlin. An undated list of officers and members is also here. The principal of Buckingham High School requested Miss Handy speak to her club about high school enrollment and attendance. Miss Handy also received a letter from a club in Kentucky recommending one of their members who had moved to St. Martins. The Treasurer of the Berlin Club filed a financial report for 1917. There are also several letters transmitting flyers and posters on infant health. Miss Handy requested a catalog from the Library Bureau in New York and subsequently placed an order. The International Harvester Company sent her an announcement about the “Fight the Fly” campaign.

Description
Correspondence in this file is related primarily to two topics: infant/child welfare and education. Rozelle Handy received letters from Charles F. Powlison of National Child Welfare Association, Caroline French Benton of the Better Babies Bureau at the Woman’s Home Companion, Edward M. Van Cleve of the National Committee for the Prevention of Blindness, Laura Clarke Gaffney of the Children’s Bureau at the U.S. Department of Labor, and Louise Schofield, Special Collaborator at the Department of the Interior Bureau of Education. In addition, this file includes correspondence from the local representatives for the Cooperative Extension Work in Agriculture and Home Economics for the State of Maryland; E.W. Pruitt, Principal of Buckingham High School; Jesse D. Price, U.S. House of Representatives; John Walter Smith, U.S. Senate; and Sarah A. Oliver of the Henry Watson Children’s Aid Society, Baltimore Branch of the Maryland Children’s Aid Society concerning the referral of the Purnell children. There are also blank referral forms to Rosewood State Training School and an apology from Minnie Warren.

This file contains correspondence from Katharine A. Pritchett, G. H. Alford, Lucy Walter, and Florence J. Hunt, all agents for Home Demonstration work with the Maryland Agricultural College and U.S. Department of Agricultural Cooperation, Extension Division; John F. Monroe and E.D. Oswald, County Cooperative Agents for the Maryland Agricultural College; E.A. Miller of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, States Relations Service; E.W. McMaster of the Board of County School Commissioners of Worcester County; John S. Hill, Principal of Stockton High School; Maltic C. Taylor of the Women’s Preparedness and Survey Commission of Worcester County; as well as with Hettye I. Newman, Laura E. Davis, Mrs. O.M. Shockley, and William C. Warren. Topics include seeds for planting, fertilizing, pruning, canning, spraying, speaking at meetings, and demonstrations. There is also a petition to the Board of County Commissioners of Worcester County signed by 36 local citizens requesting a Woman County Agent, a form letter from the Maryland Agricultural Society relaying information from their last meeting, and a prize list for the Sinepuxent and Trappe Community Show.

Description
Topics in these letters include dates and places for meetings and conferences as well as requests and deadlines for reports, suggestions for improvements for clubs, requests to Rozelle for information in organizing clubs, publication of educational opportunities, a list of officers for the “League,” a list of officers for the Associations at Ocean City and Sinepuxent and Trappe, a request to attend public hearings on education in Annapolis, and an official ballot for the Maryland State Federation of Women’s Clubs. Correspondents include Louise C. Buchner, Chairman of the Education Committee for Maryland State Federation of Women’s Clubs, as well as Minnie Warren, Mary H. Wright, and the State Superintendent, M. Bates Stephens. In addition there are form letters from the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, War Victory Commission and Education Committee, as well as one from President Woodrow Wilson, P.P. Cloxton, Mrs. O. Shepard Barnum, and Edward F. Buchner. Included in the file are two pamphlets: Rural Education by the Education Department of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and Stay In School! Education Pays pamphlet from the Children’s Bureau of the U.S. Department of Labor.

File includes six unidentified photographs, two of which are duplicates. Other contents in the file relates to the administration, operation, and collection of material for the Friendly Library in Berlin, Maryland. Correspondents include Bernard C. Steiner at the Enoch Pratt; Margaret Roberts Hodges, professional genealogist; Chalmers Hadley with the Publishing Board at the American Library Association; R. B. Handy in the Document Section, Division of Publications, U.S. Department of Agriculture; Julia A. Hopkins, Assistant Librarian at Drexel Institute of Art Science and Industry; The Baker & Taylor Co.; Kellogg Toasted Corn Flake Co.; and E. W. Keat. Julia A. Graff sent a letter to Calvin B. Taylor asking if the Library would like slightly worn publications. In that letter she also discussed her son’s itinerary for his trip around the world on the eve of war. There is also a letter addressed to William M. Handy from J.C. O’Laughlin regarding the transmittal of public documents to his sister’s library. Several notes are included from Margaret Purnell, one of which mentions the efforts of Margaret Morris to close the Library.

Description
File contains a collection of correspondence from the Maryland Federation of Women’s Clubs. Included in this file are letters notifying the local president of Annual and Semi-Annual meetings as well as the programs for the Annual Meetings in 1918 and 1919. There are several letters from Frances Sanderson (M. W. Sanderson), President of the Federation of Women's Clubs. One of the letters contained the organization’s Constitution. There are two requests to Rozelle: one asks her to give a toast at a meeting and the other requests her attendance at an Executive Board meeting. A listing of officers and officials of the 1917-1918 Maryland State Federation of Women’s Clubs as well as a Directory of Clubs and their officers is included in the file. Other correspondents include Marian Blanche Noble (Mrs. James B. Noble), Katharine E. Lucke, Mrs. C. W. Sloan, and Charlotte Hewell, as well as a form letter from Mrs. Delphine Doge Ashbaugh, Chairman of the War Victory Commission, General Federation of Women’s Clubs.

Correspondents in this file include Minnie Warren, Mrs. G. T. Richardson, and Estelle Everett. Other correspondents include E. W. McMaster, County Superintendent, and Mary B. Pusey, Rural School Supervisor for The Board of Education of Worcester County. In addition there are copies of the School Improvement Associations issued by the Education of Committee of the Maryland State Federation of Women’s Clubs, a copy of the Constitution of the Snow Hill Farmers Club, and a draft form letter that school trustees could use as a model when writing the County Board of Education requesting a new building. The file also contains requests for pamphlets as well as speaking engagements for Miss Handy.

Description
The primary topic of this file concerns the Education League of Worcester County. Minnie Warren provided the club’s constitution. There are several regrets and confirmations for attending meetings. Correspondents include Mary Halloway, K Barnes, MLS, E. Clark Fontaine, Mary B. Pusey, Mary Purnell Wharton, Edith R. Price, Ethel P. Gregor, Mrs. Brevard, Lorraine E. Gore, Edna Staton Whaley, Mrs. Linda W. Hadone, and Margaret Birch. In one letter E.I. Oswald indicated that he had asked Professor Bomberger to attend meeting. He also indicated that he would consult with Dr. McLaughlin on the hog cholera situation. Mrs. Edgar L. Johnston wrote about coordinating Dr. Sartorin's appearance at a League meeting. Another letter indicated that Miss Lorina Corrington, Miss Margretta Purnell, Miss Lucile Collins, Mrs. F. J. Lloyd, and Mrs. E. T. Johnson all served as committee chairman. Aura A. Lloyd wrote that she was sending a check for $6.00 to cover dues to the Federation of Women’s Clubs.

Included in the file is correspondence pertaining to the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment. There is a letter from Miss Clara E. Benson, an organizer for the Just Government League of Maryland asking for resolutions from Women’s Clubs supporting ratification of the Federal Suffrage Amendment. Also included is a letter to Mrs. Bennett from Clara E. Benson concerning a possible speaking engagement by Mrs. Harriet Stanton Blatch. There are several letters from Mrs. Charles E. Ellicott, President of the Woman Suffrage League of Maryland, as well as a note from Julia M. Robins. The file also contains a pamphlet on Married Woman’s Property Rights
